In the northern hemisphere, it marks the first day of spring, therefore, Spring or Vernal Equinox. In the southern hemisphere, it marks the first day of fall, therefore, Fall or Autumn Equinox. Or, the first day of spring in the southern hemisphere is actually the official first day of spring or not? Therefore, I would suggest you stick with me till the end. Moving ahead, in this article, we will talk about some of the exclusive facts like why there is a mismatch between the north and south equinoxes. CONFUSED? Don’t worry, we will talk about it in a later section. Regardless of the fact whether you are living in Newyork (northern hemisphere) or Sydney (southern hemisphere), the length of the day and night are almost exactly equal on the eve of the Equinox. In other words, the meaning of the Equinox changes depending on the fact that at which side of the earth you live. On the other hand, for the people living in the northern hemisphere, this Equinox marks the arrival of the official first day of fall in the northern hemisphere. In 2023, the official first day of spring in Australia (southern hemisphere) will occur on Saturday, September 23, at sharp 16:50 Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). That’s why in the earth’s southern areas, the September Equinox is known as the Spring Equinox. 22 in 2024.September Equinox marks the arrival of the first day of spring in the southern hemisphere. 23 next year, but then it goes back to Sept. But the Earth's elliptical orbit around the sun makes it hard for the planet's position to conform to a fixed calendar - consequently, the autumnal and vernal equinoxes, as well as the winter and summer solstices don’t fall on the same day every year. Meteorologists prefer a calendar in which the seasons start on the same days every year primarily because it can provide consistency in record-keeping. Last year, Austin had seven days with triple-digit temperatures. But if you look at just the data since 2000, as the effects of climate change have become more apparent, that annual average jumps to 35 with three of them in September. Looking at more than 120 years of data, Austin historically averages about 15 days of triple-digit temperatures each year with only one in September. The National Weather Service forecast for Austin calls for sunny skies on Thursday with a high of 102 and a high of 101 degrees on Friday. The city has already recorded 68 days of 100-degree weather, but temperatures in Austin are expected to return to triple digits. Yes, but it might not feel like it has - Austin has had an unusually hot and dry start to fall. Meteorologically speaking, fall is the months of September, October and November, yet September in Austin this year already has an average temperature of 83.5 degrees, which is about 1.5 degrees warmer than normal. More: Farewell flip-flops, hello pumpkin spice: The autumnal equinox is Wednesdayįor ancient societies, the autumnal equinox marked the end of summer and the vernal (or spring) equinox marked the end of winter, which helped people track time-sensitive activity, such as when to plant crops. According to the Farmers’ Almanac, the changing colors of the leaves on deciduous trees is actually triggered by the shorter days with reduced amounts of daylight. Each of those instances is an equinox, which is derived from the Latin words for equal (aequus) and night (nox).īut after the autumnal equinox, the northern hemisphere of the Earth begins to tilt away from the sun, so nights will get longer and days will grow shorter until the winter solstice, which will be on Dec. But twice in the course of that yearlong trip around the sun, the Earth is not inclined toward or away from the sun. The Earth spins on a tilted axis, which means that as the planet orbits the sun, it is leaning toward or away from the sun - thus, giving us seasons. Clouds notwithstanding, Austin will get about 12 hours and 8 minutes of daylight. Thursday for those living in the Central time zone. Before we break out the pumpkin carving tools or go thrift shopping for Halloween costumes, here are five things to know about this annual astronomical event: 1. What is the autumnal equinox?ĭuring the autumnal equinox, the sun shines directly on the equator, and the northern and southern hemispheres get the same amount of rays. The alignment officially occurs this year at 8:03 p.m. For traditionalists who still use the sun to tell time, fall finally arrives Thursday with the autumnal equinox.

They're typically more expensive than subcompacts, but many shoppers will find the upgrades to be worth the premium.Ĭhoosing between a subcompact and compact crossover is a personal decision. Compact crossovers have been around for decades and are certainly more practical as long as you don't mind driving a larger vehicle. If a subcompact SUV just doesn't work for you - whether you require extra room, a nicer interior, better ride quality or more power - it's time to try the next size up. You still get the elevated ride height and useful cargo bay of a crossover, but you'll enjoy easier parking and likely better fuel efficiency too. If you don't need all that space or you just want to save a few bucks (who doesn't?), consider a smaller subcompact SUV instead. What is a subcompact SUV?Ī larger compact SUV may make sense for families or people who frequently travel with friends, but you'll pay more for the added utility, and you'll also have a harder time parking the thing. Based on our own vehicle testing, we've put together this guide to help you narrow down your search for the best small SUV. That's why the Edmunds experts rate and review every SUV on the market - so you don't have to. This irresistible blend of visibility and utility, with a little rugged styling thrown in, makes compact and subcompact SUVs appealing to a wide range of new-car shoppers.ĭetermining which small SUV is right for you can be tough since there are dozens of models to consider. It's easy to see why, considering that small SUVs provide a commanding view of the road ahead and a more spacious cargo area than traditional cars, as well as available all-wheel drive. More models are expected soon, with Nissan teasing its Juke multiple times before launching it globally with an all-new exterior design, it is yet to be determined when this new model will roll on Philippine roads.Small SUVs have exploded in popularity over the past few years, even though they are usually more expensive than comparable hatchbacks or sedans. Kia unboxed its final model for the year with the Kia Seltos. GAC was able to release its GS3 crossover to compete in the market. Geely, a new entrant in the Philippine market, made its debut with the Geely Coolray subcompact crossover. Honda, looking to improve its BR-V, launched a facelifted model with refinements in its technology and interior. The Volvo XC40 made its debut here with a diesel variant in its lineup. The Toyota RAV4 was also launched in the Philippines with a new design. Releases and launches in 2019 include the all-new Subaru Forester with the brand’s EyeSight technology. In the midsize and large category, options like the Mazda CX-9, Ford Explorer, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Kia Sorento are most notable offerings in the market today. For compact crossovers, the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan X-Trail, and Toyota RAV4 are among the known choices. Popular subcompact crossovers in the Philippines include the Ford EcoSport, NIssan Juke, MG ZS, Hyundai Kona, Suzuki Vitara, and Subaru XV. Here are a few of the most common offerings from mainstream manufacturers. Almost every manufacturer has a crossover offering. There are also quite a few sizes on offer, ranging from subcompacts all the way to midsize offerings. This body style excels in a multitude of areas, as long as the roads aren’t made of gravel, and the terrain isn’t too unpassable. ![]() Crossovers are for those who want a reasonably practical car with more refinement. The rear door opens wide and allows for easy loading and unloading for items. The engine bay and cabin area are the only two boxes, since the cargo area is one with the cabin space, allowing for easy access and seating modularity. Utilizing the unibody construction that sedans are known for, crossovers offers rigidity and ride comfort which translates to more composed handling characteristics and better ride quality overall. Depending on the size, a crossover can seat up to seven passengers or maximize cargo space, making it a versatile vehicle for almost any purpose. Often mistaken for an SUV, this classification shares the same two-box design, which include a hood with a roof that extends all the way to the back. This bodystyle has the refinement and monocoque chassis of a sedan, mixed with the ground clearance and design elements of an SUV. The best of both worlds can be found in a crossover. ![]() BBQ Beef Stack - A similar sandwich offered by Hungry Jack's that features single, double and triple sized burgers along with a fried egg and a proprietary BBQ sauce called "Jack Sauce.".Sold as product tie-in with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen BK Stackticon - A summer 2009 variation that replaces the stacker sauce with BBQ Sauce. The Quad Stacker - 4 patties, 3 half pieces of bacon and 3 slices of cheese. The Triple Stacker - 3 patties, 3 half pieces of bacon and 2 slices of cheese. The Double Stacker - 2 patties, 3 half pieces of bacon and 1 slice of cheese. The Single Stacker - 1 patty, 2 half pieces of bacon and 1 slice of cheese. The standard variants of the BK Stacker sandwich are: The BK Stacker is a hamburger consisting of anywhere from one to four 2.0 ounces (57 g) grilled beef patties, American cheese, bacon and Stacker sauce (a Thousand Island dressing variant) served on a sesame seed bun. The 2005 formulations are branded as the "Stacker King" line, while the 2011 formulations are branded as simply the "Stacker" line. Canadian locations serve both the 2005 formulations of the Stacker sandwiches as well as the 2011 formulations together. Since then, the Stacker line has been reintroduced under their 2005-2011 formulation and with a new name: the "Stacker King" sandwiches. The Stacker line and other related calorie-heavy menu items were dropped in 2012 when 3G Capital of Brazil bought the company and initiated a menu restructuring focusing on a broader demographic base. ![]() Three single Stackers had 50% more cheese and double the bacon of one triple Stacker. Consumer Reports' blog The Consumerist noted that two single Stackers at $1.00 included more cheese and more bacon than one double Stacker for $2.00. The changed ingredient list and pricing structure created a situation such that the distribution of ingredients did not scale at the same rate as increasing numbers of burger patties. The Stacker line underwent a minor reformulation in 2011 that involved deleting the top layer of cheese and changing the amount of bacon in the sandwiches, and moving the sandwiches from the core section of its menu to the company's value menu. With the onset of the Great Recession in 2008–2009, this narrowly-defined demographic-based sales plan faltered and sales and profits for the chain declined Burger King's same-store comparable sales in the United States and Canada declined 4.6% in the three months ended September 30, while McDonald's posted same-store comparable sales growth of 2.5% within the United States. They would then film themselves trying to eat the 1 lb (0.45 kg) sandwich in under five minutes. Customers would create an "Octo-Stacker" sandwich by purchasing two quad Stackers and mashing the two together sandwiches to create a sandwich with eight patties, eight slices of cheese and sixteen half pieces of bacon. Despite its lukewarm reception, an internet meme relating to the sandwich developed rather quickly. The new sandwiches had a muted reaction in several reviews- readers rated the Quad Stacker as one of the most over-the-top gluttonous burgers in a poll, while the Impulsive Buy stated that the sandwich was much like any other bacon cheeseburger but meatier. ![]() The Stacker consisted of anywhere from one to four 1.7 oz (48 g) beef patties, American cheese, bacon and a Thousand Island dressing variant called Stacker sauce served on a sesame seed bun. These new additions helped propel same store profits for more than sixteen quarters. The Stacker line was part of a series of larger, more calorie-laden products introduced by the company to entice the super-fan into the chain's restaurants. Amid this new super-fan focused menu expansion the chain introduced its new BK Stacker sandwich in late 2006, a family of sandwiches featuring the same set of toppings served as a single, double, triple or quadruple hamburger. After assuming ownership, TPG's newly appointed management team began focusing menu development and advertising on a very narrow demographic group, young men aged 20–34 who routinely ate at fast food restaurants several times per month which the chain identified as the "super fan". In 2002, Burger King changed ownership when its parent company, Diageo, sold its interest in the company to a group of investment firms led by TPG Capital. The BK Stacker sandwiches are a family of cheeseburgers sold by the international fast-food restaurant chain Burger King. †Percentages are roughly approximated using US recommendations for adults.
